Each year, countless people from across the province come together to ensure kids have access to the best health care imaginable. Several of them recently received accolades and special recognition for making an impact within the community and at BC Children’s Hospital.
DNA—which we get from our parents—is the genetic material that makes up who we are. But, what exactly controls these changes? Researchers at BC Children’s Hospital are one step closer in their understanding of just that.
The Division of Allergy & Immunology and BC Children’s Hospital’s Digital Lab—a unit that develops digital health solutions to improve care—have launched a mobile e-health tool that’s unlike any other, called Allergy Check. With just a few clicks, it tells parents and families the likelihood that their child is dealing with a potentially severe food allergy.
Experts at BC Children’s Hospital go beyond caring for kids when they’re sick and hurt—they also prevent them from visiting a hospital in the first place. One of the reasons why the hospital has become so successful at that is because of the work of Dr. David Scheifele.
The practice of using 3D technology to improve care isn’t entirely new to BC Children’s Hospital. Before the program, BC Children’s would partner with hospitals like SickKids in Toronto to commission 3D printed models for its patients. Carter Dieno is one of them.
Thanks to a transformative gift from Kirmac Collision & Autoglass and the McIntosh family, BC Children’s Hospital has Western Canada’s first pediatric 3D technology program. This technology will now be used to prepare for procedures in ways never before possible.
The 32nd Annual Crystal Ball, presented by Beedie Development Group raised over $4,000,000 for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. These fund will advance the enhancement and expansion of pediatric mental health programs.
Last year, more than 93,000 kids visited BC Children’s Hospital. Many of them, over the holidays. By donating to The Snowball Fight for Kids—a virtual snowball fight powered by donations—you’ll be helping to fund vital equipment, life-saving research, and the highest level of care for kids across the province.
Members of BC’s South Asian community and guests raised $755,000 in support of BC Children’s Hospital at the 10th anniversary A Night of Miracles (ANOM) Gala. This fundraising achievement represents a milestone in philanthropic support from the South Asian community, who have helped raise over $5.4 million over the past 10 years through the gala.
